Piloting your own boat is truly one of life’s greatest pleasures. Enjoying the sun on your face and the smell of the sea air can cause many of life’s trials and tribulations to fade into the sunset. And the pride of ownership of a fine craft is a feeling that is hard to surpass. Sometimes, however, situations can arise that can make this experience seem out of reach. Advancing age, along with some of the normal physical challenges such as hearing loss, insecure balance, and impaired vision that typically accompany it, can make boat handling activities that were once simple and easy, complex and unsafe for senior citizens. Younger boaters, while able to perform boating activities proficiently, occasionally need to be freed from the responsibilities of piloting while they entertain family members or business guests. And boaters of all ages can benefit from boat “repositioning” services, where a licensed captain moves the boat from either the factory to the homeport or from the homeport to a vacationing spot and back again.
